Blitzkrieg II is a total conversion for Zero Hour
It re-energises the tired World War Two genre with massive tank battles featuring the full spread of technology from the start of the war in 1939, to its conclusion in 1945. The tedious micromanagement and logistics that normally characterises WWII RTSs is repalced with streamlined destruction on a massive scale.
Blitz II also offers a wide range of tactical and strategic options. Infantry must work in conjunction with tanks, suppressing enemy armour and taking control of cities. Air power is vital and control of the skies allows for devastating ground support strikes. Meanwhile, the arms race to develop more and better tanks means you must keep pace or be hopelessly outclassed.
The game allows for control of three sides:
The Allied Powers, featuring Britian, the USA and France. The Allies concetrate on strong defense and air power in the early game, before developing powerful mechanised forces as the intervention of the USA takes effect.
Nazi Germany. The Axis side begins heavily focused on infantry, mechanised assaults and combined arms. In the late game they shift towards a more defensive strategy featuring superweapons such as the V1 and V2 missiles , advanced jet aircraft and the monster Tiger II and Maus tanks.
Soviet Russia. The Russians begin very defensively, having to throw massed conscript formations backed up with obsolete tanks against superiour enemy forces. In the late game their economy kicks into action, allowing for massive armoured formations featuring huge numbers of the awesome T-34 backed up with some truely massive support guns and artillery.
